New strain identified in South Dakota tuberculosis case

A new strain of Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent of tuberculosis in cattle,  has been found in the Harding County, South Dakota bovine tuberculosis investigation. The findings were confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa through whole genome analysis of the bacteria isolated from some of the affected animals from the Harding County herd.
