Researchers test ear tags for tracking rumination, sickness in beef cattle

Accelerometers – tiny devices that can measure acceleration – have been used on dairy animals to measure feed intake, detect heat and notably, identify sickness. The study, "Technical note: Accuracy of an ear tag-attached accelerometer to monitor rumination and feeding behavior in feedlot behavior," can be found in June’s issue of the Journal of Animal Science.
