Cows that calf late one year almost always do it again the next. It’s not impossible to catch them up, but it rarely happens. That’s because when a cow calves, you really only have 80 days to get her bred again for the next year just to maintain the same calving date, says Mike Smith, University of Missouri beef reproductive specialist.
