Varying Weather Conditions May Threaten Winter Hay

Cary, N.C. and Eastman, Ga. – A gamut of weather conditions in the Southeast – from drought to extreme rain – may significantly impact the quality and supply of the hay crop in coming months.

“Weather across the state of Florida has been inconsistent,” said Reyna Speckmann, an assistant Extension scientist at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida. “The state is below average for annual rainfall, which may limit yield and quality in some operations.”
